What we do

Our Education and Outreach Programme

Aruhiko PEET was created to address three key industry challenges in engineering workforce development including:
  • Raising the profile of the Electricity Supply Industry to students in secondary schools and universities
  • Providing a future capability in power engineering and maintaining a steady talent pipeline
  • Broadening the diversity of the talent pool
These objectives are addressed through the ATTRACT, DEVELOP and CONNECT processes.

ATTRACT students and more children into engineering and broaden diversity in the talent pool:
  • Outreach activities and information about power careers in Aotearoa New Zealand’s energy future
  • Sponsorship of relevant STEM programmes for school students and industry-pertinent groups for university students
  • Scholarships for both school leavers and undergraduate students including diversity criteria
DEVELOP talent and produce graduates with practical skills:
  • Scholarships available at each year of the power engineering programme
  • Scholarships for postgraduate research based on defined industry needs
  • Industry field trips and site visits to help undergraduate students understand the industry workplace
  • Support internship placements for practical work experience
CONNECT industry and talent: engagement with scholars and students:
  • Field trips and site visits
  • Career events
  • Scholar functions
  • Student projects
  • Support recruitment opportunities

Developing the Talent Pipeline

Aruhiko PEET works within each university to deliver the programme and scholarships to create a talent pipeline that supports the Electricity Supply Industry.
